Sheffield invited to join Egyptian Elegance night

Sheffield is being urged to get ready for a unique Cairo carnival as Britain’s Got Talent 2008 semi-finalist – bellydancer Sophie Mei – hosts an exotic evening of Egyptian Elegance at The Showroom Cinema on Wednesday 22 April 2009.
Britain’s Got Talent has got everyone talking again this year and Pitsmoor’s Sophie has seen her YouTube hits peak again with the show’s recent third series revival.
In collaboration with Yorkshire television, Sophie will this week present the story of her journey from Pitsmoor to the pyramids of Giza in an exclusive screening of ‘Bellydancing in Egypt,’ a documentary that explores the roots of bellydancing , filmed in Egypt last summer. For the documentary, Sophie interviewed the legendary bellydancer, Sara Farouk and costume retailer, Eman Zaki, both of whom will travel all the way from Cairo to celebrate with her.
The party will commence as www.sophiemei.net and Hansley Beard Events present an unforgettable night of Egyptian Elegance that includes an Arabic lounge and food, as well as singing, dancing and drumming. It will be a truly spectacular night of special celebrity guests, business networking and local performers.
Sophie comments: “I can’t wait for the event! Everything seems to be happening in and around Sheffield at the moment- these are exciting times and this is a perfect chance to launch my new website and raise some cash for charity.”
The music – an eclectic mix of Arabic beats to a variety of party tracks – will be provided by BBC Radio Sheffield’s Steve White. The evening will finish with a surprise guest spot being filled by a well-known, nationally renowned singer.
The event marks the official launch of www.sophiemei.net, Sophie’s new and Interactive website designed by Vent creative and KDC Freelance.
The party is free and open to members of the public, in The Showroom bar from 8pm onwards. Any money donated will go to Just Because – a registered charity aiming to raise funds and promote awareness, prevention and early detection of breast cancer for women in Egypt.
